For their graduation at the French animation school Gobelins, back in 2007, the thirty-somethings Julien Bocabeille, François-Xavier Chanioux, Olivier Delabarre, Thierry Marchand, Quentin Marmier and Emud Mokhberi created a piece about the adventures of octopuses in love and their escape from a cook with a bad temper on the Greek coast.
The short film was nominated this year for the 2008 Oscars, although it has already collected 13 international awards, including the Spanish ArtFutura. And it is another example of how French animation continues to be (and has been for decades) the best and most vibrant in Europe.
The lighting of the whole scene, which faithfully reflects a pleasant summer day on the Mediterranean coast, is worth mentioning. Something that is in tune with the season that is already upon us.
Directors/animators: Julien Bocabeille, François-Xavier Chanioux, Olivier Delabarre, Thierry Marchand, Quentin Marmier and Emud Mokhberi.
Music: Kenny Woodviolin performance by Dorthy Kwon
